- wxtoadExplorerOn the very rare occasions when we have stayed at a CG that does this, I have not tipped. And actually I don't care for that service - are they trying to mimic a 5-star hotel with its bell-boy service? Show me on a park map where my site is and I'll find it. I especially do not like the guide who wants to guide me as I back in to the site. I trust only one person to do that - DW.
At least at the public parks that we much prefer, we don't have to put up with such pretentiousness.
WxToad - DrewEExplorer IIOn the rare occasion where I have had a guide, I've never seen any need to either give them a gratuity nor to topple them over. A gracious "thank you" seems sufficient in my estimation.
- discovery4usExplorerI am going to take this up with the DW. She has never tipped me for guiding her to the camp site as she sits in the passenger seat with her feet on the dash :) As a matter of fact I normally have to get my own cold beverage after hooking up the utilities. I guess it is just part of the job.
- tpiExplorerOnce or twice a summer I've followed utility vehicle to my site. Generally I've found it more to help find the site than to help with backing- my little C isn't much to back. Recently guided in San Diego KOA, but have stayed there other times and not taken to site. Personally I've found it helpful in large or unusually laid out campgrounds. Once in a while been asked if I want to be taken to site, have said yes if place unfamiliar. Never thought of tipping though.

One high end resort in AZ not only guided us to the site then stood around with a flashlight while we hooked up. Since we have a B, he seemed a little diaspointed that I pulled out the cord 50/30 adapter and was done.
Another family run place in Deadwood insisted on helping us back in. - FunnyCamperExplorer IINo tip. never have, never will. only a few times we were 'guided' and it is their job and it is for the cgs benefit and cgs have their reasons they want to provide this.

I been forced to follow at a number of parks. Often they will watch to make sure I don't damage their site(?) Sometimes they will try to direct me backing into a site - I have to get out of the truck and tell them to stop waving and shouting - it's very distracting and, of course, not helpful.
I hear you there. I'm a pretty good backer-upper. I can't do it with any help. I start to back in, get out once to look, get back in, and position it. Any help is very distracting, though I appreciate them wanting to help. I just tell them to yell if I'm about to hit anything :) - Tyler0215ExplorerDo you tip the clerk at Wal-Mart, the nurse at the Dr. office, or your mechanic? Why tip anyone for doing their job?

Thought of this while in traffic this morning. Does anyone tip the person the guides you to your campsite? I was thinking since it is a holiday weekend and they will be crazy busy, I may tip the person.
Maybe this is just for high end resorts?
This is not a right or wrong answer question -- do you or don't you? - would you or wouldn't you? :?
I was thinking - does it count when I call the Manager for permission to park in Wal*Mart and he says park over by the Storm Water Management Pond, it will be quieter, then I go in and spend $100+ in supplies in the store? Yea I'll call it a tip. (LOL)
:h :B - LaurenExplorerHuh?
We have been to 177 different RV parks and never even heard anything about this from anyone. And usually just given a map and directions.
Staying at a place right now for the first time. The front desk proudly tells me they are a 10-10-10 park as does the guy who took me to the site.
It is a pull thru that slopes down some at the back so he tells me that I should put the 5er to the front and then park behind. He leaves then.
So I pull way forward and check for slide clearance for the trees and glance at elec and water posts. Need two blocks under the tires on one side (first time in years I have needed two blocks)...drop the 5er and park the truck behind.
Hook up the water and elec and look for the sewer. It is all the way to the back of the site; ground level and even hard to see!
I have never had that situation before. It is a good 30-35 feet from the others.
Choices - hook up and move back and hope electric then reaches or leave it and severely watch water use for 3+ days; we chose the latter and will use their (very clean) restrooms to shower. And use very few dishes, etc.
In the past, when shown to a site, they have pointed out things. Even had one place they went down a checklist with you.
My tip when I spent 32 years in corporate sales. Take care of them and they keep coming back and giving you business.
I / we tip in restaurants - 20% give or take depending on service. Once, out with customers I tipped 50% for outstanding service - but waitress was daughter of a neighbor and I was on expense account!
Have rambled.
