How long to you look to find a spot and did you ever have any trouble with not knowing about rules and permits?
How long? So many factors come into play on that question. If you're not at all familiar with the area, I'd allow 2 hours to find a spot. That's if you're totally green and not familiar with what kinds of places to look for. You will get better at it over time.
Oh.. and don't ever wait until dark to start looking.. unless you know where you're going!
