Trailer sizing in Yellowstone, other NP sites

I'm laying out a Yellowstone trip for 2015...yes 2015! It will be a big trip for us...2 weeks + which is why I'm doing some outlining now. Here is the concerns / questions I have (multiple):

Some of the parks in Yellowstone, such as Bridge Bay, Grant Village, etc, seem to have little info on the sites. (1) Do these places have electric at least? I see some have showers. (2) Trailer / RV length seems limited to 40ft with tow vehicle? Is this true? If so, it leaves me out with my current TT and TV.

Appreciate any input...again, I see a ton of info on RV.net and google, just not on the specific questions above...or I'm not looking in the right place.
Thanks.
  • 1. Fishing Bridge CG is the ONLY campground in YNP, that has any hookukps and they are FHU.
there are no other campgrounds with electric or water hookups in the Park.
    2. plenty of the major campgrounds have sites big enough for your rig.
we stayed at Madison and Grant and there were a lot of sites that you'd fit in.
you should call Xanterra and get some better info.
  • Thanks for the input. So Fishing Bridge is only place with electric? What are the campsites "outside" yellowstone? I've heard Grizzly is a good place. Any others?
  • Yeah Fishing Bridge is the only place with FHU. Length shouldn't be a problem but the sites are very tight side to side. So if you have to back in (most likely unless the site behind you happens to be empty it can take some maneuvering to get in. And you will be very close to your neighbors.

We have reservations at Fishing Bridge which I understand is the only campground within the park that offers electric. They are full service. We made our reservations almost a year ago so I'm not laughing that you are starting to make your plans now. That's a smart idea! Our 5er is 31' and our truck 21'-there was no problem with length. I believe there is room to park your vehicle next to your trailer. Also, many people recommend reservations outside the park but we really wanted to be in the park to be closer to the action. We can hardly wait for our turn...we leave in June! Good luck with travel plans and happy trails!
