Train system for Philadephia

If you stay at Timberland, you can always drive up I-295 north to the Woodcrest PATCO high speed line station (in Cherry Hill). Then you can take the PATCO train to center city, right to 8th and market and the heart of the historical areas. Valley Forge and that area may be best to drive to.

The train station in Downington is only 13 minutes from the West Chester KOA. 1 Hour train trip into Philly.

I live right near Oak Grove and provide you with tons of helpful info for what you are attempting to do. In fact, we store our motorhome at Oak Grove. We often take trips into Philly via the SEPTA train which is located about 14 minutes from Oak Grove Campground.

Is there a reason you want to stay north of the city? There's a park & ride facility just outside downtown Philadelphia that has RV spaces. They have a free, frequent 24-hour shuttle that goes to a bus stop about a mile away. From there, it's a little over 2 miles to Independence Mall (Liberty Bell, etc.). You can take a bus, or you can walk (I did both, but I like walking in big cities).

The price is based on length of the RV: $30 up to 29', $40 up to 39', and $50 40' and up. Plus $13/night for the vehicle.

The pictures on the website are accurate. It's just spaces in the parking lot, but we were there for touring so it didn't matter, and it was great not facing a long trip home every night. I think it's a real find.

Campus Park & Ride

I've driven in every large city along the East Coast. I think Philly is one of the easiest to drive in. There are a few parking lots within a few blocks of Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.

Just came back from Timberlane... nice CG. Quite a few long term campers, but clean and close to Philly. Made it from CG to historic district in 25 min. Very easy in and out to Philly.

Keep in mind almost all the sites in philly wrap up by 5pm, same for the USS New Jersey in Camden...

Timberlane honors Good Sam discount as well. CATV and FHU on almost all sites and a bunch of pull throughs.... Sites a bit tight but great location.
