We did this trip last year. Awesome. Came from Buffalo NY. Drove until we got to Badlands. Spent the day there and did some hiking. Then we camped for a couple nights at Rafter J(highly recommended!) in Hill City for Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Needles Hwy, etc. After that, we went to Devil's Tower--climbed to the top of the boulder field and took the hike around the monument--kids LOVED it.
Onto Sheridan WY to "Wallydock" for the night. Over the Bighorns(stopping every rest area for pics) to Cody(Ponderosa CG). Visited the Museum of the West and did the Rodeo--great time. Onto Yellowstone--did 3 nights in Fishing Bridge--was only there to sleep at the end of the days! Got to see all the animals except wolves. Swam in the boiling river too!
We also went to see Crater of the Moon in Idaho--very surreal place. The KOA in Arco is very close to it. We ended up being on the news in Idaho. This CG is a story unto itself for us. Some much happened in the couple days we were there---too much to list here! All good, most of it quite hilarious.
Came back into Wyoming over Teton Pass in the RV---not that bad, tried to be considerate and moved over for the 4-wheelers. Visited Jackson Hole for the day and stayed in Colter Bay CG until we had to go home. Colter Bay CG(the one without hookups) has nice paths to Jackson Lake for some GREAT views.
There's so much I left out in this post(DW took 3000 pics!) but, needless to say, this was a life-changing trip.
