sky_free, so you feel the 200 watts of solar is sufficient? Have you used this set up often? What kind of generator? We are planning an AK trip summer of '15 and would like to know what it takes to camp where you want rather than where they tell you, you can. By the way, does the
Canadian government shut down? (Oops! did I say that with my outside voice?) Thanks for the trip report and great pix!!
Yes, the 200 watts is totally adequate for us as long as we are at least partially in the sun. At Powell the batteries were completely charged by 1PM. We have a Honda 2000 generator but have never used it since installing the solar and I usually don't even bring it anymore. We use the solar every time we camp, which is at least once a month May - Nov since we only have electrical hookups rarely. It's not so much our solar wattage but rather our battery storage that matters the most. Batteries drive me nuts and I'm still trying to figure out my 2 6V Costco Golf Cart batteries, but that's another story for later. The bottom line is that we have enough power to watch satellite TV for a couple of hours, run the furnace at night if it's cold, charge laptops and phones (when the sun is out), and run lights (ALL LED) and other normal RV small loads without a problem.
