For me it would be your NW loop all the way. The Appalachians seem more similar than different from south to north, and the east is pretty crowded. Yellowstone, Tetons, Glacier - awesome - magnificent mountains, thermal features, canyons, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, bears, wolves, bison...
