Ouray Part 2
On the morning of our first full day, we got an early start and headed out for "Ophir Pass". It runs from close to Silverton over to the small town of Ophir.
I asked my buddy to plan an off road day that our truck was capable of, and then another day that was more extreme and would require us ride in their Jeeps. Today we were in our truck. This is a photo of him and his Jeep at the beginning of Ophir.

A shot of the scenery. You can tell here how narrow the trails were. If you have a fear of heights, this is not an activity for you!

Anything over 10k feet still had lots of snow pockets around. Here we are at the top of Ophir Pass.

This doesn't show scenery very well, but I love the anticipation in my sons face as we approach a switchback. In a 157" wheelbase truck, many switchbacks required 3pt turns.

Here's a better shot of the view from there. Note the trail on the other side of the valley.

Looking at this picture, I'm a little surprised that I did as well with heights as I did. But it's not like you can turn around!

Once on the other side of the mountains, we drove into Telluride. The weather turned rainy (the first and only of the trip). We sat in a downtown park and had a picnic lunch and then took the gondola up to the top! Beautiful, even in the rain.

Of course, I had to go into the "Telluride Medical Bud Company". My wife and I went in just to see what it looked like, but the sales lady was like velcro and wouldn't let us out. A little creepy.

We pushed on, even though the weather was telling my buddy it was time to stay on pavement. We had to take the opportunity while we were there. We took "Last Dollar Road" back over the range towards Ridgway. This trail wasn't the high wow factor of Ophir, but it was still our favorite based on scenery.
The trail had many pockets of going through aspen forests. Gorgeous! I can't even imagine in the fall.

There were tons of wildflowers all throughout the trail. This shot is framed above our mantel now.

That's all just one day! We were on the trail for at least 8 hours and loved every second. I can't believe how much we packed into this trip.
