I camped quite a bit as a lad, but I'm ashamed to admit we didn't do much camping during the kids' growing up phase - time just somehow seems to get away from you when you're trying to survive from crisis to crisis - until one day you wake up and realize they kids they were are gone forever. So kudos to you for carping the proverbial diem and making that family adventure happen this past summer, when they're young enough to embrace it. Those memories will stay with them - and you - forever. Bravo!
Spot on!
Grab the moments when you can. It's not just for the kids, but for the adults too. At work yesterday we were discussing how quick life can change. Two of my former colleagues have sons diagnosed with cancer. One is 24 with brain cancer and the other is 21 with aggressive testicular cancer. Devastating. Someone's friend plans on retiring this year and their 35 year old unmarried son was involved in a tragic accident leaving him paralyzed. He will move on with his parents so they can care for him. That's not the retirement they were expecting. We all have examples like this.
Don't wait til "in a few years." Make it happen!
