Oh yeah. Take a picture of the monster feedlot. :S Good thinking, wife! We've driven past that thing before, and learned to not just keep the windows up but to switch the ventilation system to 'recirculate'. ;)
Like you, I wish I had taken the horse ride into Bryce. 1 day at Mesa Verde was enough for me also, as was a couple of hours at Black Canyon. I did spend a night boondocking on Boulder Mtn (Hwy 12) in Utah, where I could enjoy a 100 yard stroll to the edge of a dropoff and a 50-mile view across the valley.
Interesting comments you made about that park in Ridgway, I never knew that was the site of the early segment in John Wayne's True Grit. But the fact that it was filmed in CO sure is unmistakable. DW and I watched that again just last weekend, and living just a couple hours from Fort Smith and McAlester I had to marvel (sarcasm here) at the beautiful mountain scenery I've somehow missed seeing when driving through Oklahoma. If I had that sort of countryside so close to home, I'd never have to leave the state for camping!
Well, I hope the grandparents are enjoying the movie today! If you see them sneaking to the liquor cabinet frequently during alleged bathroom breaks, you'll know it's time to wrap it up, LOL. :D
