I can relate to your comments. I grew up south of New Orleans, right at the mouth of the Mississippi. In the delta, we had one type of landscape. Much like the plains. As a child, I thought it was an ugly mud pit. As I grew, so did my appreciation. Now, I can go back and visit and just sit and overlook the march for days. There is a peace and beauty to it that speaks to my soul.
All that said, I'm glad I now live closer to some "painted ladies". ;)

I have enjoyed your trip. Thanks for getting back in the saddle.
There is a subtle beauty in the plains. It some respects its the difference between a painted lady and one whose beauty is more than skin deep.
We have traveled many many miles from Texas to the Dakotas and there is a tremendous amount to see and experience. There is a lot of wildlife, animals and birds. This area has some of the best game bird hunting in the country. I have friends who hunt pheasants, deer, dove, ducks etc in this area. Fishing can be pretty good as well.
The people of the area have a story to tell and places such as Liberal KS, with its army air field, Dodge City its western frontier heritage, to Saint Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria, Kansas. They are a part of the American Story. Is it as beautify and exciting as Colorado, no, but it has its own beauty and I enjoy the time I have spent there. I know the family wants to see it at 70 mph.
Look forward to the next installment of your American Story.
