Bonus Footage #1:
Here I sit with a day off work and up before anyone else. I thought I'd take the opportunity to add in some random photos that didn't make the first cut. Someone mentioned posting more, and I believe I will from time to time. :) Besides, I know how slow winter can be around here!
Here we are on the long road headed west. I bet many of you have similar pictures. Stopped at a Walmart for lunch. Walmart played an interesting role in our trip...supplies, accommodations, it sure made traveling easier. I'm not a big fan of what they've done to our country, but in this capacity, I was thankful.

I forget now where this was? Maybe Tennessee? But they had just had a tornado blow through. It is one thing to see these things on the news, but another to see in person. It was a somber moment that prompted a long discussion in the truck.

In Oklahoma, we stopped at another Walmart for lunch and when we took the exit, we saw this sign. We're a fan of hers and the song "Ain't in Checotah Anymore".
Where 69 meets 40
There's a single stoplight town
And back when I was really young
Part of that burned down
It was neat to see the town and put a face on the song.

In Homolovi, we woke up to the most gorgeous morning sky. We don't often see these cloud types in SC. I took a picture to use in my classroom. We have a weather unit that it will be well suited for. I try to personalize my lessons. The kids buy in better...it makes things "real".
Another lunch on the road...this time it is the parking lot of Petrified Forest. Mac and Cheese before we started the driving tour. We could have left the trailer here for the 26 mile tour, but decided to keep it with us so we could exit out the back of the park.

At Homolovi, there was pottery all of the place in the desert. Visitors must pick up pieces and put them on rocks for others to easily spot. I was impressed that so much is around still. Folks apparently can be respectful.

This is funny. We pull in to Winslow, Az. and wanted to get a photo of us "at a corner in Winslow, Arizona". We drove through town looking for a spot and I decided that this would be a good one, as it shows proof that we are there. Little did I know that there was the actual park/memorial. A fellow walking down the street stopped us as we were posing and said, "you know there is a spot in town to do this".

So we drive a few blocks further and there it is, the actual "corner". Across the street is a gift shop dedicated to the park alone. I talked for 15 minutes or so to the lady inside. She said they get thousands of people a week to the corner. The shop plays "Eagles" music all day, every day. She said that her ears don't here it anymore...much like living near a railroad or airport. Here are the boys in the store.
