Yes, the everyday pictures are more enjoyable to us than the "Kodak moment" spots.
To illustrate my Walmart comment, take this very stop in Checotah, Ok. Driving through town, I saw at least a dozen locally owned businesses that were boarded up. The town looked to be just a glimpse of what it was. Same theory with the interstate system. Look at what it did to route 66.
But as you mentioned, they are serving a need. It's not like they're doing something that's unsupported. But it's sad none the less.
