We've done all 3. All have pro's and con's.
Truck stops are noisy, as trucks often idle all night and trucks move in and out at all hours. We would pull in and leave our genny running to offset the noise from outside, while allowing us to run the AC.
WalMart is probably the best option, as long as the specific location allows it.
Rest Areas - Depends on the location. If it's pretty busy, I would not hesitate to stay over, but in remote location with little traffic, I might be more concerned.
