Tucson RV park

looking for a RV park to spend a week in Tucson sometime in April. Doesn't need to have lots of amenities, mainly clean with full hookups, room between sites to breath and put awning out . Do you have any good suggestions?

Tucson Mountain Park - Gilbert Ray campground is our absolute favorite. No reservations and a 7-night maximum but folks move in and out daily so sites usually available, especially if you can arrive around 10am. This is near the Desert Museum (a must-see outdoor complex - go early morning in April). It's also near Saguaro Nat'l Park - West and Old Tucson Studios (movie set).

Catalina State Park would be our second choice. It's a little north of town so driving to see things will take a little longer.

In April a lot of snowbirders will have been heading north so you chances are good for finding something.

    Are these FHU parks?

  • We stayed at Crazy Horse RV Park in March 2014. We found it to be quiet and clean.

It is off I-10 in the southwest part of town. It's somewhat close to the air force base, but not so close the jets would bother anyone.
  • Far east side we stay at Justins diamond J RV park. Hugh sites and very quiet. For the east side we many times stay at the county fair grounds just off I-10 on Houghton. Both less expensive than the recommendations above which are all very nice.
  • Live here in Tucson area and suggestions so far are right on the money ... KOA at Lazydays is good and is centrally located but Voyager is great as well - they are far southeast side. Catalina SP is one of the best state parks rv places you will find but it is way north of town. Depends a lot on what your plans are and where they are located.

Feel free to email or PM me if I can help with Tucson info....lived here 13 years.

I second this. We went to this park when our daughter was a student at UA. It's huge, and immaculate. The number of RV's in it could vary form almost empty, to almost full, depending on the time of year. Great facilities for the dogs as well.

We met a lot of neat, friendly, people there and they never made us feel "small", even when our modest Winnebago was surrounded by a Tiffin convention.

Another fine option is the Voyager RV park off of I-10 on the SE side of the city. I know you're not looking for lots of ammenities, but it has more than you'll need.

  • I would not recommend the Prince of Tucson RV Park. A lot of RVs can't put out their awnings and way too many loud Harleys leaving the RV park on their way to work in the morning.

  • Several good parks. Lazydays has a park, I think it's a KOA now, behind their dealership. Lots of room, clean, restaurant, and plenty of RV's to look at.

One campground we absolutely love is around the mountain from Tucson proper but still close - Catalina Sate Park. It only lacks a sewer hookup but does have a couple of dump locations. It is on the backside of the Catalina Mountains and the views are incredible. The sites are long and wide with lots of space between neighbors. Only downside is it's very popular and you gotta book it early.
