Do you think a batwing a couple of feet off the roof would function also? Are you up on a ridge? Are you aiming at about 240 degrees or closer to 90-95, towards Phoenix?
I'm in the flatlands. Pointed about NE.
I don't know about the Batwing but I see them up on peoples rigs pointed in the same direction.
NE / SW is picking up the stations in Parker Valley south of Blythe.
Digital TV antenna direction of aim.

we camp out Plomosa road (north of town?) and get a few channels every year. We're thinking of bringing our DISH this year. Not sure how it works, but will find out.
Had my straighttalk phone, and got phone reception 100% of the time. I also have a MIFI device, and get internet in Quartzsite. Best reception of our whole trip usually in Quartzsite....
I use the Dish Tailgater and got excellent reception last year at Plomosa - Jerry_CampbellExplorer

I camped at LaPosa South the last 2 winters and had good reception of ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX plus PBS with a batwing antenna. CBS was a must, couldn't miss The Big Bang Theory.
Also Excellent Verizon data service.
How far south did you have to go from I-10 to get signal?
Jerry, how high up is your antenna pole and what type of antenna?
I camped 1 1/2 miles SE from the LaPosa South check-in station. To be more specific, Follow the main rd from the check-in station to the end of the pavement then look for the big water tank. From there go south about 1/4 mile. I camped in that spot for 5 weeks and never had any reception problems using just the batwing antenna on the roof. Verizion coverage and data access was solid in area all the way from Yuma to Parker.
Wish I could be there this winter. Maybe next year - NinerBikesExplorer

8 feet off the ground or 8 feet off of the roof?
How is the stirred up dust and dirt from other speeding drivers / campers so far this year?
8 ft above the roof.
Dust hasn't been a problem. But I'm off in the corner on the way to nowhere.

We like to see the football playoffs, so we'll move to the Blythe side (Tome Wells) to see the games. Tom Wells is a pretty good area and has excellent reception.
I purchased this long range antenna a few years ago, but never used it. I've been going down into Baja instead.

I am on the north end of LaPosa South. Maybe 3 miles south of I-10.
My antenna is a cheapo $29 HDTV amplified antenna from E-Bay up about 8 ft. This is my second one in the last few years. I gave the first one away because it was just to flimsy to take apart and store for the road. They work great at a long distance.
