I frequently camp and fish at Tahoe and Plumas national forest and those forest are not closed. This time of year Tahoe campgrounds are closed due to snow and ice on the roads and in the campgrounds. The forest is still open for fishing and water recreation. Same goes for Plumas NF. The lighting tree campground is always open in winter without host or services if you can get into the campground over the snow and ice. They leave a few vault toilets unlocked. Both NF are at the 6000 ft elevation. Both were closed in last fire season due to extreme fire danger and actual fires in Plumas. So there you have it. Cheers to the New Year.
