We also have used KOA's basically for overnighters also with no complaints... They almost are always helpful and clean.. No issues here.

The KOAs for us are a very good place to stay for the overnite situation when in travel mode. There are plenty of the KOAs close to the major roads and usually easy in and out.

They are always alot of traffic coming and going at all hours of the nigth at alot of them. After you travel some you will find the one that suits you best and we try hard to work our trips around this idea. To us they are a blessing to us to meet our quick in and out when we need to rest somewhere over night.

We have also stayed at some that were actually very nice indeed.. Most of them that we stayed at however are small camping spots and very noisy with the folks coming and going all the time. All we want to do is get rested up for the next day... When we are on the road we always try to get settled down somewhere before dark, get a good meal, and hit the road again as early as possible the next morning.

We are very thankful for all of the KOAs across the regions. They indeed are franchised and run by local mom and pop folks.

I generally use some KOA's for overnight stops, just because they are usually very conveniently placed just off many interstates. So far, so good!

For longer stays, IMO, state parks are so much better, especially for what you seem to prefer...... natural setting, adequate spacing between sites and a more relaxing atmosphere. The flip side of that is you usually don't have all the amenities. Many times you only have electric. But, there's something out there for everyone.
