The Spiral Jetty is actually on the NE shore of the lake, not far from the Golden Spike NHS which itself is a fair distance from civilization.

Another piece of art work in the Great Salt Lake Desert is the "Metaphor - The Tree of Utah" just off I-70 about 25 miles east of Wendover. It's only accessible from the westbound direction (and don't think you can go across the median on the seemingly solid salt surface from the eastbound direction. Even with 4x4 you can get axle deep before you know it!
