Marquette has a city campground if you go to marquatee
as for mackinaw island, go there. stay at the st. igance side and camp at the state park right by the bridge..walking distance to downtown. drive up to soo saint maraie and see the locks.

Munising has the "Munising Tourist Campground". It's right on Lake Superior. We stayed there this year, nice place.

Keep in mind the casinos in Christmas and Sault Saint Marie have RV overnight parking. It's free in Christmas, I think it's $10.00 per night at the Sault. They have a dump station at the Sault.

Uncle Duckie's in Munising does Pictuered Rocks Kayak tours. We did it a few weeks ago, very cool.

To see the picture rocks, you need to take the boat tour. Very little of the rocks can be seen from in the park.

If you plan to stay in/near Manistique, definitely Indian Lake State Park. We were there a few weeks ago. Beautiful CG on a nice shallow lake. Some sites are right on the lake.

We just did that same trip, albeit in reverse order, going east to west.
Here's where we stayed, and what we saw:

At Munising: Bay Furnace USFS Campground. Beautiful campground about 2-3 miles west of Munising. Right on Lake Superior. Nice camping spots, some right on the shore. It isn't a parking lot situation like at the Munising Tourist Park campground. The sites have some space between them. No hookups, but if you will only be there a few days, not a problem. Historic Iron making furnace right next to the campground. Take the afternoon Pic Rocks boat tour, as the sun is in the western sky and lights up the colors on the rocks much better than during the morning, when they are in the shade.

At Manistique: Be sure to visit Kitchi-Ti-Kipi (Big Spring)at Palms Book State Park. Very Impressive, crystal clear spring where you can look down 40 feet and see trout swimming at the bottom and see the 10,000 gallons of water per minute bubbling up through the sand at the bottom. No camping at Palms Book, but Indian Lake State Park is nearby and has camping.

At Mackinac, we stayed at Straights State Park, which is right on Lake Huron and near the base of the big bridge. Electrical hookups available and great views of the bridge and island. Be sure to do the tour and lunch buffet of the Grand Hotel. You will feel like aristocracy!

Near Traverse City, we stayed at Interlochen State Park. There is MUCH to see in this area. Be sure to take a trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes and take a drive on the scenic byway. Very impressive.

We enjoyed all the campgrounds we stayed at and all the places we visited. OF course, these are just our suggestions. Have a great trip.

Don't cross the bridge until you also see the Tahquemenon Falls, the Shipwreck Museum and the locks at Saulte Saint Marie. Several nice campgrounds there. Then go south.

Also in Munising is Wandering Wheels CG. We used that instead of Munising Tourist Park so we could have FHU and WiFi. Yes, take boat tour of Pictured Rocks Nat'l Lakeshore in the late afternoon or evening - you'll see spectacular colors.

Also agree on Tahquamenon Falls & Shipwreck Museum. From Soo Junction you can ride a 2 ft. gauge railroad to the riverboat "Hiawatha," and cruise to the falls. Neat experience.

We stayed at Munising Tourist Park campground the week after the 4th. Very nice place. Great views and they now have FHU sites on the lake! I would definitely stay again!

Close to Lake Superior, keep your eyes open for wild blueberries and thimbleberries (the latter look and taste similar to raspberries but with smaller seeds and mush up more easily, and the plants have much larger leaves).

Fayette SP is an interesting historic site. Like Dewey02 said, don't miss Palms Book SP. Have a pasty while you're in the UP... with gravy, not ketchup!

The bakery in Mackinaw City has great bread and baked goods, about a half block north of the boat dock parking lot entrance. Their pecan rolls and cinnamon bread are my favorites.

Bay Furnace, as mentioned above, is a very nice campground for touring Pictured Rocks. Do the tour late afternoon for the best color.

Definitely see the Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point.

Traverse City area is fabulous - lots to do. If you can get a site at Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore that would be first choice. It has two campgrounds - D.H.Day and Platte River. We volunteered at Platte River. :)
