On reviews, I like to look at the total number of reviews and then the average rating. It's hard to figure out the algorithm for weighting on some sites, so I also look at the number of poor, good/average, and excellent ratings.
Throwing out the highest and lowest is a good tactic. The highest was most likely posted by the park owners, the lowest posted by the nearest competitor.
Then there's the "to each his own" issue. I've read reviews complaining about train or airplane noise and I'm disappointed when I don't hear a train my whole stay. I wrote a review about Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort last month. It's very nice, but not the kind of place we normally stay, so the review was a little "star-struck". Someone replied, and from the tone I sensed that he/she had started writing a nasty reply and then realized that a good experience in a park is highly subjective and different from one individual to another. The resulting reply was very nice.
