Utah NP's

How many days to do each of the following: 1. Arches NP, 2. Canyonlands NP, 3. Bryce NP, Zion NP, & Capital Reef NP?
  • We like to schedule 3 nights in a park which gives us 2 full days to explore but we don't get to hike much because of our dogs. There have been numerous times that we wished we could have stayed longer but with 2 days, you can see a lot. We know where we want to spend more time now!

Check out Dead Horse Point & Goblin State Parks as well. Dead Horse Point has a nice campground and is near Canyonlands and not far from Arches. Goblin is worth the side trip to get to it.

If you hike, bike, ATV, etc, the above could take two months, total.

I'll disagree with that when it comes to Canyonlands. The overlooks are so far apart and down long dirt roads that you couldn't do more than a couple per day. But that might be plenty for someone just wanting a quick look. Canyonlands just isn't set up to be convenient for a quick car visit. Arches can be done in a day with a couple short hikes. Preferably the hikes will be done in the morning before 10AM in the summer. It's one park that pays you to get out of bed and on the park road by 7 AM. For some reason a few parks are really hot when you take hikes and this is one of them. Take a lot of water with you, a couple of bottles each minimum.

  • Except for Arches you can easily spend weeks at any of them. We have over the years and look forward to return trips. But it depends on your visiting style. Do you want to do a thorough exploration, or are you happy with something less than that.

Zion has been somewhat ruined by the mandatory bus shuttle system now in place. That cuts down you ability to explore as easily as you once could. Arches and Zion are both darned hot during the summer.
