Valley of Fire, NV

Valley of Fire state park. Looking at heading up there over the Thanksgiving holidays. I know there is Atlatyl Campground in the park, but anticipating that it could be filled, and even if not we might choose to boondock over closer to Lake Mead. Anyone got a recommended road to head to? I'm thinking of something off North Shore road. I see St.Thomas Road and Stewarts Point Road. Something in that area is an option. We'll be pulling a 29' Fiver.

Any info on those roads or any recommendations in the area? Not really looking for anything closer to Vegas or the dam.

Beautiful setting. Is that the Atlatl campground inside VOF park?

Sorry I'm not sure as the picture is one I found on the net.
But I do recommend the Atlatl campground and the small loop just off the large loop road is where the best sites are in my opinion.

Not all Vally of Fire campsites are equal. Looking around a bit can lead to a special site.

Bolder Bay and Las Vegas Beach campgrounds are good places to camp at Lake Mead, and at low prices especially if you have an old fart pass.
Las Vegas freeways make those campgrounds not far from town time wise.

  • We have boondocked and played off-road at these coordinates, N 36deg35'10.72" , W 114degree31'54.21" . Blacktop road most of the way end and the dirt road was OK. We pulled in with a 37' Toyhauler LOADED. Stop when you see the soft sand. There was a boondock campground at the end of the blacktop. Area was GREAT & beautiful.

  • Not sure if this will work - Snowbird Mesa. There is quite a bit of boondocking all over the area.

Seems to work. If you zoom in on point B, you will see all the boondockers...
  • I have day tripped to VOF several times from Vegas. I have always seen RV's that appear to be "camping" in the large parking lot across the road from the Casino at the intersection of I-15 and the road to the Park.
  • There was a couple there this year that on another site posted his blog, his site is (loveyourrv.com he has quite a few pics of the area, nice guy also to chat with....
