- LamanExplorerI have stayed at Ameristar, just north of 20. Ok place close to casino but make sure you tell them you want a level site! Some of their sites, particularly on the south and west of the campground, are pretty unlevel.
- padredwNomadI think things are going down in Vicksburg as far as RV parks.
Ameristar is probably the best, but it really is just a big parking lot. The breakfast was good and free the last time we stayed there. We would consider it only for an overnight.
Magnolia just off I-20 used to be a pretty good park. We have stayed there a couple of times but that was some time ago. More recent reviews are not encouraging.
About five miles south of I-20 there is the Rivertown RV park. We stayed there only once. It was pretty new then, now I see reviews that refer to it as an old park.
The Battleground Park gets consistently very bad reviews. We have never stayed there. We took the reviews as warning.
Out about 30 miles east at Edwards is Askew's Landing. Years ago we really enjoyed staying there. It is a quiet and rural setting. Some very poor reviews mostly referring to the bath house. We never used it. For that matter we always use our own trailer facilities.
And, as far as I know, these are all the choices you have in Vicksburg. If I were going to be there a few days, I think I'd check out Magnolia or Rivertown. For an overnight I'd choose the casino, Ameristar and enjoy the breakfast--if that offer still holds. - ThumbExplorerStayed at Ameristar last year
No more free breakfast though
Nice folks in office
Lots of green space to walk the dog
Easy in and out - TrlrboyExplorerWe stayed at Rivertown a couple of years ago. I have some pictures of the RV park in an album about Vicksburg. Check it out.
Rivertown RV park - The_Painting_TeExplorerAmeristar ... Clean, convenient, and cheap ... camp on
- cheteckieExplorerWe stayed at Askew's Landing in Edwards, MS, just a few miles from Vicksburg. It was a nice park, but we did not use the public bathrooms or showers.
- Dance_ChickExplorerWe also stayed at Askew's Landing 2 years ago. It was fine..would stay there again. Did not us bath house though.
- ksbowmanExplorer IILast year on the way to Florida we stayed at the Ameristar and liked it. Clean, friendly, pet friendly and reasonable. We plan on staying again this year. The shuttle picked us up at our door for supper and breakfast. We did have to pay for meals though. Didn't have to cut loose either.
- AtleeExplorer IIWe stayed at the Ameristar which is owned by Ameristar Casino in very late February last year. It was a good place to stop.
That was our first real stop on our tour across America. If you are looking for a "resort" style RV park, this isn't it. But if you are looking for a nice clean rv park to drop the trailer while you did sight seeing, etc. it's great.
I thought I got good value for the money. - Since this thread includes "attractions" I am going to suggest you go see the Vicksburg National Military Park. You can drive through the area and stop at various sites where key Civil War battles were fought. At the end of the drive is the ironclad Cairo. It was fished out of the Yazoo River years ago and placed on display. It is covered and the ship has been pieced back together. It is quite impressive and you can actually walk through parts of it. Now keep it mind it is not all intact, but the frame is there and they have made a good effort for you to experience the size and layout of the ship.
Here is a link to my blog where I show pictures of it:
Cairo
Truly fascinating.
