Video TR: Silverton, Colorado

Silverton is by far our favorite Colorado destination that we've visited thus far:

https://youtu.be/00fKauB3AWQ

It's a quaint, lovingly restored former mining community deep in Colorado's rugged San Juan Mountains. Here you'll find a less spoiled Colorado, where the town's welcoming Greene Street is surrounded by mining ruins, ghost towns and strikingly beautiful off-road driving. In this new Kitchen Table Trips video episode of Grand Adventure that finally debuted today we find relaxing boondocking while camped in the National Forest next to the bubbling waters of Mineral Creek, see the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, ride a mine train into a former gold mine deep in Galena Mountain on the Old Hundred Gold Mine Tour, and take a 4x4 excursion to the ghost town of Animas Forks at a lofty 11,200 feet.

Here's hoping this video inspires you to visit Silverton yourself. Personally, my wife and I can't wait to return.

Thanks for sharing...would love to visit.

    Thanks for watching!
  • Love Red Mountain Pass between Silverton and Ouray. Beautiful drive ( though we haven’t done it in over 20 years), but not for the “faint of heart”!

Indeed, it's not. However, I got far worse trepidation from reading all of the forum accounts than I did from actually pulling on that road.
  • My first time, was in the early-‘80’s, 6 cylinder Ford van, 4 kids, and a Starcraft pop-up camper....we survived! I wish all of the photos had! ??
  • Have vacationed in Silverton for the last two years to escape the oppressive AZ heat. I've ridden all the trails in the mountains and agree the old hundred tour is pretty cool.

I am retiring this year, and we decided to try Northern California for a month instead - but the San Juans live in my heart.
  • Another home run, you're batting a 1000, great job! ...... Silverton is on my Bucket List =)

Thank you! It's still on mine -- so much to still do on our next visit.

And I'm still doing these "Kitchen Table Trips" until camping season returns. I'm not yet 100% certain, but I think that the next one will be one of my favorite go-to spots a little closer to home: Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area (UT/WY). I'm still alternating gear/how-to videos with KTTs, though, so before then, next up will be a Champion generator review.
