We are wanting to take a family vacation next summer to someplace in Virginia which has full hookups and cabins. I can't quite see renting a house when we have our fifth wheel but the older kids do not have anything and do not want to rough it. I know all about the state parks but I was hoping someone might know of a private park, preferably on a lake or river

Fancy Gap cabins and campground. Also if you research cabins in the area you will find many privately owned units that are available, a phone call will likely locats some that have room for your 5er for an upcharge, just would likely have to use a 15 amp AC connection.

The lake might be the hard part. Most KOAs and Yogi Bears have cabins. Lake Gaston Americamps has cabins.

Bull Run Regional Park near Centreville, VA has cabins.

Meadows of Dan CG. No lake or river however. It is within a stone's throw of the Blue Ridge Parkway

Lake Ridge RV park (formerly R&J Ranch) has full hook-ups, cabins, a small lake with fishing and paddleboats, and things for the kids to do such as water slide, pool, and putt-putt golf. It is near Hillsville, VA.

Both the KOA and the Holiday Travel Park in Virginia Beach have cabins. Holiday Travel Park has a lot at the oceanfront for their campers. Watch out for that jet noise though.

Christopher Run Campground on Lake Anna has lots of camps sites and cabins to rent.

Thanks for all the replies. We have been to Bull Run and The Breaks. While I enjoyed both, I am not sure how they would work for this adventure. We have already talked about Jellystone at Natural Bridge and it may be an option when the grand kids get a little older to enjoy all they have to offer.
