To the OP: where are you staying at Holland?
I'm thinking Ludington State Park as a 1st stop from northwest Ohio. Anyone have any other suggestions, or a comparison of Ludington to other parks?
I've never been in Michigan.
What do you like to do?
Ludington is the gem of our state park system. Miles of trails and beaches, a cute tiny inland lake and a lazy river to raft on... plus the campground doesn't resemble a parking lot. The city of Ludington is a tourist destination itself, lots to do but it's small town, not big city if shopping or nightlife is an activity. The park is isolated from the city, about a 20 minute drive.
Holland SP is set right inside a neat tourist town. The campground itself is a parking lot, but it is right on lake michigan, and has easy access to the water and the town. Not so much nature though, no shade from the sun or the wind.
Just a few miles north of is Hoffmaster SP. Trees, beaches, sand dunes, a lazy river and only a few minutes drive to downtown Holland for tourist-trap activities or Stenberg road for a big shopping mall and other national brand stores.
