West Texas Whippin'

Does anyone have a hook-up for a nice RV park around the Midland/Odessa area. My trips West with my wife are killing me. There doesn't seem to be a decent place out there with full hook-ups where you cant drink the water and the drive from DFW to Tuscon requires a stop - over. Anybody.. . . . .?
  • I certainly wouldn't be worrying about water on a one-night stay as you're traveling.

Put some better water in your tank at your previous stop. Carry a few jugs of bottled water for drinking/cooking.

An RV park or state park will have safe potable water for you. It may not taste good but it'll be safe, especially for showers. It's not going to ruin anything for a night or two.

Take Midkiff exit and go West on North Service road to Midland Drive (about 3/4 mile)then North about a block. Even when they are full of workers, they keep a row of FHU sites available for short term use.

I have used this place a couple of times and didn't have a problem.

Ok, thanks. All three places we even considered, you cannot drink/shower with the water. Don't want to put non potable water into my rigs system - so it looks like your suggestion will have to do. Again, thanks.

I have a hard time believing that a state park or commercial campground does not have potable water.

Regardless.... fill up the fresh tank at home and use it. You should certainly have enough for an overnight stop.

The water is drinkable...just barely. I grew up in West Texas drinking it everyday. Didn't realize how bad it was until I moved off and go back from time to time to visit my dad.

You do know about using bottled water for coffee don't you?

Duh...that's why all the restaurants have R.O. water systems, alot of houses have water softeners so the pipes won't corrode and there are several places where you can get your 5 gal jugs refilled.

I have been associated with Odessa for 45 years of the 50 years that I have been on this planet, so I know a fair share about the area.

Thanks Russ. This will be on our list.
  • We bring about ten gallons of really good water from home for drinking, and we don't drink the water in our fresh water tank, for exactly the reason the OP mentions -- you never know what you are going to encounter. Especially when making coffee, the bad water really affects the taste.

Why not fill your fresh water tank at home? If you are connected to shore water in a campground it is not going in to your tank unless you want it to. I always do a taste test before filling my water tank and after it passes it still goes through the filter.
