Westport, MA, Camping Ground

Considering a week at the Westport Camping Ground in Westport, MA. Is anyone familiar with this place? Comments, recommendations, suggestions, anything? Looks okay on paper, but prefer personal reviews. Thanks.
  • We kind of liked the sound of it too. We've booked a week late June into July so we can use it as a base to toodle around Eastern MA and attend the New Bedford Folk Festival July 4 weekend. Not too many choices in the area but full hookups and family atmosphere sound good. We'll see.
  • Update.

Arrived here last Friday. Very nice quiet area, but only 5 minutes from Route 6 and all the shopping you need. Older CG, but well maintained. Sites are well spaced. Roads are dirt, but good. Some turns were a bit tight, but we made it. Martin is just as he seems in the video. He caters to adults, so there's not much (if anything) that that would occupy kids. Very quiet. Most noise came from the various dogs saying hello to one another during their walks and setting off a chain reaction. Far enough from the highways to eliminate news from them. No parties in our area.

Perfect? No. Apparently, SE Massachusetts is suffering from an infestation of catepillars which repel from the trees like so many ninjas. They're everywhere. Creepy. Should be over soon (so I'm told). Shower rooms are clean but the hot water was difficult to maintain. Never seen a streetlight in a CG before, but there's one right outside our site. Takes the edge off having a campfire, but the catepillars had already taken care of that.

It's been a good place for us to explore everything from Cape Cod to Fall River and Newport. We'd come back.

    Fred.
