Our Adirondack cottage sometimes sits unoccupied for many months at a time. We shut off the water pump and water heaters, and then flush the toilet a couple of times to reduce the pressure in the lines. Then we pour a little RV antifreeze in the traps. In cold weather, the thermostat is set at 45 and we monitor the temperature and propane tank level online, ordering refills as needed. One of our daughters checks on the place once a week or so and the neighbors also keep an eye out for problems as they drive by. The contractor that plows the road in the winter also does our driveway.
