I'm a little beyond the canvas(duck) tent and air mattress, one pot, one pan and sand to clean them with style of camping. At my age it is a real treat to take the DGKs on a one or two mile trek to see something like landscape arch or delicate arch in Arches NP or down to AH point in the Grand Canyon or maybe going through Antelope Cyn near Page, AZ. They have great underdeveloped camping(no full hookups or concrete pads) and those places were saved for the DGKs to see by a few wise and loving people.
I have just discovered that driving has become a problem, usually a nice nap the next day cures what ails me if I can take it in a nice campground with or without hookups, so much the better. Heck I have even found destination campgrounds are starting to interest me. I like Glamping and my DGKs are happy either way, tent camping with the Scouts(DGS will be off to Fraiser Park, CA area to tent camp tomorrow) or Glamping with GrandDude and Nana.
My problem now is with getting there, So Cal is over populated(in my estimation) and peace and quiet in natural surroundings are most often a long way from home. As stated above, it's getting hard to drive for 300 miles and the thought of making camp once you arrive is not my idea of fun. I like to take camp with me. I've been camping for over sixty years and I have the memories of camping without a tent, with a shelter half and several different tents and now in a lovingly cared for classic 24 year old motor home.
My point is CAMPING hasn't CHANGED, there are just a lot more folks doing it in the same space we had years ago and some are my age and enjoy being away and yet we enjoy the ability to call ahead or email for tomorrows campsite or to see if that old BLM site is still accessible by an RV.
