What happened to camping/RVing?

We used to stay in the back of a pickup bed with a sleeping bag lol THAT was when we were young and agile. We also slept in the car a couple times on our honeymoon trip 36 years ago. So, with age has come a desire to not sleep on an uncomfortable surface. I could easily do without a tv, but we do have one and it's ok as we do have 5 months to fill. Every night having a campfire would get old, I think. we do NOT stay at rv parks, we go get water in 5 gallon containers to pump into the motorhome. We get fuel to fill the generator to charge our batteries (I'm on CPAP so need this charged) We do go to Vegas and stay in Sam's Town. That being said, we did watch the last Tonight Show with Jay Leno and the Olympic opening ceremonies. We went to a sports bar to watch the Super Bowl as well (GO SEAHAWKS!!!) :D

Conserving water and batteries was just the way you camped. Forty some odd years later I am still RVing that way to escape my urban life and get unconnected, if only for a weekend.

As I look around at all the posts and blogs, when it comes to Boondocking, it seems it is either scary or a mystery to newbies or folks are all obsessed with adding things so you can bring and run all the stuff you have at home. I can understand that if you are living full time in the RV, but not for trips. During trips I either want to just relax or explore or go sightseeing. Also, without all the stuff from home, it reduces distractions and forces the family to talk and bond.

When did the change happen in RVing when Boondocking became the aberration and normal camping/RVing became a quest to bring your house with you? Also, I am curious how many folks like me are still out there, or if I am just a 52 year old Fuddy Duddy.
