We used to stay in the back of a pickup bed with a sleeping bag lol THAT was when we were young and agile. We also slept in the car a couple times on our honeymoon trip 36 years ago. So, with age has come a desire to not sleep on an uncomfortable surface.
We decided we had to go with an RV after the wind blew over the tent at Palo Duro in the middle of the night in April a few years ago, and we had to get up and drive almost 2 miles to get to the bathroom in the middle of the night.
Electricity, a nice stove and oven, a TV, etc - are nice. But a stable bed, a bathroom and comfortable chairs are essential at our age.
AC with outside temps above 105 is also nice.
