What is the name of the NC mountain chain where I am at?

I'm so confused. I'm a flat lander now living in Hickory NC, east of Asheville and SE of Boone. Would a local please explain the name of the beautiful mountains I see. I hear Great Smokey's; Appalachi...

Thanks all for the clarification and ideas. Sitting in a CG in Hildebran watching the fog burn off in the valley below. Beautiful, calming, and a great way to start the day.
