What is the name of the NC mountain chain where I am at?

I'm so confused. I'm a flat lander now living in Hickory NC, east of Asheville and SE of Boone. Would a local please explain the name of the beautiful mountains I see. I hear Great Smokey's; Appalachi...

I wish I was RV'ing and forgot where in the country I was LOL!

It is a beautiful area! He Appalachians are truly beautiful, especially this time of year!
