What would you expect?

Not only morally wrong; it might be legally wrong do I think you can rent it out when someone has already paid for it and they have not been told and some sort of compensation offered.

What would happen if the OP was in a class B or C and went out for the day and didn't leave anything in the site to make it look like they are coming back. Does the camper telling the office they are leaving and canceling the rest trip, make it ok for the park to rent out that space for those unused nights? If giving a refund then yes. If not then no. I guess the moral of the story is to ask if you can get a refund and if they say no, then tell them never ins and then just leave. But it would be morally wrong to rent out that space when it's already paid for.

Thank you for the replies. I figured there would be many opinions. I paid it all. I am a rule follower at heart. I was using $30 as an example amount because the real amount doesn't really matter. It is the principle. Thanks again!

Given the 5 day cancellation notice (IMO, that's from the start of the stay), I wouldn't expect anything back for the cancelled night.

That said you could probably argue that the last day was within the cancellation period so you should get your money back for that.

D & M --- come to the western states; you can get very nice places with FHU's for $30 or a little more. Our 40 nights out this fall to CO and UT for the colors will average $35 and we are staying at nice private RV parks (which we normally do). Generally, we average about $38 / night on a trip - FHU including taxes. However, we do belong to Good Sam and KOA Rewards and those are not factored in. My KOA fee is generally covered by the rewards I get back. I really play the numbers game on this!

Hey, am sure it is fairly common practice to fill a site if someone leaves. Some may get their money back, some a credit and some nothing. I think the "nothing" - although not right - is the most common by quite a margin.

We did get our money back in one case we had to leave early - Steamboat Springs, CO. Our neighbors were seriously violating rules even to the point of setting up a tent on OUR space - even though tents were not allowed in the RV section. Said they did that as there was more room on our site. We said we were leaving and manager said no refund; the asst manager (who was to become the manager in about a month) freely gave us our money back for our upcoming paid for nights when the manager left the room....she had overheard the whole thing. We had not even approached her on this; did it of her own accord.

Just depends how you want people to remember your place and who and how you tell about it....if they care, that is.
