Busy time of year. Within the 5 days. I would be pleased as heck if they gave me a one day credit for the future but I would not expect it or hold it against them if they did not. I would look at this whole thing differently if it were a medical emergency or breakdown, etc.
We had to cancel a place in Moab one time - well in excess of their limit - due to a medical emergency with my wife that we had to beat our butts home. They not only kept our full amount they refused to send back home to us two packages of mail that had been sent there by our neighbors.
That is the only bad experience we have had in 16 years but we rarely cancel.
