When and where to find Rhododendrons

The wife and I were wanting to find some waterfalls, rhododendrons, and wildlife. Looking at the Franklin, NC area as base. Driving 38' MH w/toad from SW Louisiana.
Help us plan our trip for June 2015.

If you are ever in Massachusetts, Heritage Museum and Gardens in Sandwich, MA, has phenomenal rhododendron gardens.

Along the Blue Ridge you'll find all the things you mention. We always enjoyed it most in mid spring around the end of May or so.

Roan Mountain, TN has a Rhododendron Festival every year. They are usually magnificent during that time.

Roan Mountain has the best that I know of.
