I would agree with your style too and that's why we have a small popup that we tow with our Jeep. It allows us to boondock in more remote spots where we wouldn't or couldn't take our FW.
Correct me if I'm wrong .... but aren't there now popup campers with air conditioning and an inside shower? ;)
The last time we used a pupup was in the late 60's in the summer in the Utah/Nevada desert and of course there was no A/C in it, no inside toilet, and no shower capability other than maybe if you brought along a black bag to hang in the sun!
Nowadays we like it all ways using the same RV - a fancy commercial campground at certain times, out in the middle of nowhere at other times, and everything in between anytime. The comforts of our RV remain the same everywhere.
P.S. Our latest self-containment comfort addition is a full size outdoor propane firepit we carry along that has a large enough flame plus heated bricks to actually keep us warm and cook hotdogs/s'mores on. It doesn't require packing along or looking for wood, and can be used anywhere anytime regardless of any open fire restrictions we're encountered so far.
