- Thom02099Explorer IIJust got home to Loveland after spending 2 days in Red Feather Lakes. Didn't have reservations for a Sun-Tue outing, but lucked out with open sites at Bellaire Lake. This is a hidden gem! I've stayed at West Lake and Dowdy Lake, but both were full or had sites booked for reservations. West Lake has some first come/first serve sites, but they are NOT good sites at all.
Bellaire has electric only, so you have to bring water. There's also no dump station so had to dump when I got back in town. Despite this, it was very pleasant. There is some damage from a wind storm last year and there are a lot of trees that have been removed. There's also a loop that hasn't been cleared/repaired, and the CG Host said they wouldn't get to it this year. But it was quiet, there's a lot of space between sites, there's good hiking in the area, and Bellaire Lake is supposed to have pretty good fishing.
Love going up to Red Feather! It was nice and cool (downright cold after dark), storms rolled in briefly, then cleared up. Red Feather Lakes is NOT at all like Estes Park...and that's a good thing. They don't want to be. It's not overly touristy, but they get a goodly number of tourists. Keep it in mind for your trips to Colorado, if you want a rustic experience! - 4runnerguyExplorerAt home right now. Just got back from a couple of days on the front range visiting friends. Before we were at our cabin at Lake Isabel SW of Pueblo. Left there one afternoon at 55 degrees and it was 98 in Pueblo when we got there an hour late. We're rafting Glenwood Canyon tomorrow. In a few days we're off to the Salida area with SIL and nieces for a few days of mountain biking.
- MartynNomadIn my office in downtown Denver.
- patperry2766Explorer IIWhen we were coming home, we went thru Monarch Pass. Within an hour the temp went from 80 to 45 with a few snow flurries/heavy rain and then back to 80...crazy temp swings for a Texan
- rhochnadelExplorerRight now Colorado Springs is enjoying cool 70's and 80's. Afternoon daily thunderstorms are dumping humongous amounts of rain in some areas. Come and enjoy!
- jrpExplorerI'm in South Fork, Co at my summer homebase.
Weather here is perfect, warm sunny days & cool nights. When it does occasionally get too warm down here in the valley (8200 ft) you can go up a few thousand ft in the mountains and its 10 degrees cooler. My days alternate between hiking, fishing, ATV'ing and Harley rides.
I was a fulltimer for yrs, now a part-timer, snow birder.
buc, South Fork is very popular with Texans escaping their hot summers, we have more Tx license plates here than Coloradans.
PS: we had a deadly week in the Co mtns; 2 hikers were killed by lightning strikes, in 2 separate incidents in the high country of Rocky Mtn NP; and 2 separate kayaking deaths in the white water of the Arkansas river. - patperry2766Explorer IIJust got back from a 10 day trip. 3 days in Mueller State Park, 7 at Ridgeway State Park. Not ready to come back to the heat of Texas!!!

:( - 2KGeorgieBoyExplorerWe live here in Colorado near the town of Westcliffe in the Wet Mountain Valley, intersection of Rts. 69 and 96. We bought our first Class C for camping/ATV riding and upgraded this year to a newer 31' 2000 Georgie Boy Class C. We hope to eventually join you all on the road and see some other parts of the USA......For any of you that have been to Colorado and have not tried ATV/SxS (side by side) riding in the mountains...you don't know what you're missing. It is an entirely different view of Colorado...TRY IT!!!!
