Where can I camp next to a beautiful lake or river?

I often see photos of people camping within 40 feet of a beautiful fishing lake nestled in the mountains or a gentle stream running a dozen yards from their front doors, but I don't know where to actually find these spots.

Do any of you have suggestions on where I might find these anywhere in the United States? I'm fulltiming and can be virtually anywhere in the next couple of years.

If you know of a spot but don't want to reveal it publicly, I'd appreciate a PM.

    Here's the web site of:

    thetimbersresort.com

They are located in Berglund,MI on Lake Gogebic. The new web site is under construction. What it doesn't show yet is the campsites within 100' of two 130' docks on Lake Gogebic. They have boat rental including a pontoon boat.

You can E-mail Tim or Sarah at fishhuntstay@thetimbersresort.com

  • Check out Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas. Full hookups on the lake in beautiful wooded hill country.
  • Along most major rivers and lakes there will be RV parks with sites that overlook the water. What I do is decide what river or lake I would like to visit then use www.rvparkreviews.com to locate RV Parks in the area using the map on the website you can see if the park is at the river or lake. Then go to the park website to see the photos...if I see photos of RVs in sites on the river bank or shoreline then that's the park that goes on my list. Check reviews to determine which park on the list I want to try first.

Here's a couple of my favorites in California
Edison Campground, Shaver Lake, CA. In the western Sierra Mountains.

Sequioa RV Ranch, near Three Rivers, CA. on the Kaweah River & a good base camp for visiting Sequioa and Kings National Parks. Site 55 is our favorite http://www.sequoiarvranch.com/campground-map.html

    In Michigan near Coldwater is
http://www.wafflefarm.com/ Beautiful grounds and lakeside sites.
  • A few of my favorites: Rest-A-While RV park along the Hood River Canal on the 101 in Washington. JGW RV park in Redding California
  • Head up to the Adirondacks.....you just described most of the State Parks....if you want to go a little further, Mooshead Lake in ME....check out Spencer Camp....
