Where to camp without reservation out west?
I have a friend coming from back east this summer and they haven't made any reservations. Any spots in California, Nevada or Arizona where on a first come basis one can usually get in? Or maybe some...

Check uscampgrounds.info
for a good list of public campgrounds. It gives elevations of the campgrounds, which is a good way to hunt for something cooler.
