Would appreciate ideas on where to go around Christmas for 5-7 days. DH and I live in Myrtle Beach and would like a trip no more than 7 hours away. Have been to Asheville area, Savannah, Charleston, Atlanta, Orlando, as well as Williamsburg,etc. Looking for something different. Would like to avoid probability of snow and ice, if possible. Need full hook ups and to be able to enjoy a campfire. We like exploring (NOT hiking!) and are into brew pubs, historical sites and just enjoying and relaxing. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Well then... Nashville is out if you want to avoid snow and ice as your trip there would most likely encounter one or both... Have you thought about the Panhandle of Florida/ Alabama ? I hear its a nice area to see.. what about Panama City.. or even New Orleans if you don't mind the farther drive...

St Augustine FL. Lots to see and do. See the sites via trolley. Hop on-hop off.

I was going to suggest Blueberry Hill Resort in Bushnell, FL BUT they don't allow campfires and it's more like 8 hours away. I'm wondering if any campgrounds in Florida allow them due to the possibility of fires.

Beaufort, South Carolina is a nice town. Have you been to Hunting Island State Park near there? Might be full, but has beautiful oceanfront campsites.

How quickly plans can change! Thanks for all the great suggestions but looks like we're most likely to stay home for the holidays! May sneak in a couple of days at Huntington Beach SP! It is our favorite local spot too!

Its funny how I always look forward to RVing in your back yard every Christmas. I love Ocean Lakes during the holidays. Sorry I cant suggest anything.

If you choose the Pigeon Forge Gatlinburg area, we like Sevierville at the north end. We like River Plantation RV Park.
Air Force Museum at Warner Robins AFB, Andersonville Prison Andersonville GA and Fort Benning Army Museum in Columbus GA. More driving but all interesting.
Chattanooga TN has lots to see and do also. Probably get snow there.

Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg. Lots to do but there might be snow, possibly. You will curse the traffic, but have lots of things to do. We actually live in Dandridge, 20 miles away from the frenzy of Pigeon Forge. Check out Anchor Down camp ground for a first class stay. Then you can drive into the frenzy if you want then come back to some of the most beautiful views if the Smoky Mtns. and Douglas lake. Dandridge is the second oldest town in TN and a good base for day trips. Right off of I-40 where I-81 connects.

We spent last Christmas at Huntington Beach State Park.Maybe that's too close for you but we loved it.Campfires allowed and great nature programs every day.Even on Christmas Day.
