Where to go in April

I don't think anyone has mentioned Big Bend NP in S. Texas. April weather there would be good, it's not crowded, and some folks say it's their #1 favorite park. I haven't been there yet, so no opinion.

The Utah/N.Arizona area really has a lot going for it. Slot canyons, Zion, Red Canyon, Bryce, Kodachrome, Capitol Reef, Arches, Canyonlands, Monument Valley, Painted Desert, Grand Canyon, and more.

Well I see you are from the Carolina's. So if you don't want to drive 3,000 miles out west to see only the 'beginning' of spring, come on down to North Central Florida.

ALL the Snowbirds will have beaten feet back up North so finding a CG site will be a breeze!

I found an area with the most beautiful amazing blue springs around Dunnellon. Kayaking, hiking. Couple of real nice CG's in wooded areas too.

Crystal river is just a hop skip and jump from there with amazing sites to and the Ocean! I've heard numerous times that a CG called Rock Crusher is really nice and centrally located for a jump off point for all the Springs. And again places like Cedar Key right on the ocean will have tons of CG sites open that time of year.

Just be sure you get out of Dodge before May comes around. It's like God hits a switch on May 1 and it goes instantly from beautiful tolerable weather to death defying hot heat. :W

I would think you have come to realize there are lots of options. It would probably be better to narrow those possibilities down to what you would like best to see, do, and/or experience. I live in southeast Arizona so Springtime, with trees turning green and the flowers blooming would draw me to the Southern states. And the history of that area is another attraction. However for scenery, geology and ancient history you can't beat Arizona and Utah. Of course both these regions are loaded with super campgrounds in national forests and grasslands.

From one Tar Heel to another UTAH UTAH UTAH (southern) period period period not to put too fine a point on it.Lol.

April is easy. Yosemite.

Yellowstone has it all: lakes, snow covered mountains, thermal wonders, wild animals, etc.

There are only 2 CG's open in the park at Yellowstone in April, Mammoth, which is open year around, and Madison which opens on April 29th, neither have hookups, which could cause a few heat problems at night, bring extra blankets & quilts, don't forget the Long Johns, we were there in late May one year, had snow at night and temps in the LOW 30's, this year we were there in early July,no problems, super beautiful area.

Another vote for southern ut/ surrounding area. Fly into Vegas, Phoenix or salt lake.

Can't go wrong with Utah in the spring. Here's a loop that includes northern AZ - Fly into Las Vegas, rent RV , then do Zion, Brice, Grand Canyon & Sedona.

If you like the desert, Anza Borrego (CA state park), Joshua Tree, and Mojave Preserve will show you varying types of desert. Lots of history in those places also.

Lot's a great suggestions here. Since your schedule is open to late April, May or June and you're flying in and renting for 10 days and want nice weather with spectacular scenery and you've got FF miles, why not Alaska?

Fly into Anchorage mid to end of May or June, pick up an RV and head down to the Kenai. The weather will be nice then, few bugs out, most of the tourists won't have arrived yet and there are dozens of lakes with camping. There are a number of developed RV parks and State parks in the small towns along the hiway. Also camping right in town on the bay in Seward or Homer with fishing, sightseeing, tour boats, etc.

I was in Yosemite last April and it was amazing -- uncrowded and so beautiful. And sunny and warm!
