Croton Point County Park is about 30 miles north of the city & about 1 mile from the train station.
Thanks for the response, is any more RV parks within 50 miles?
If you stay there, check out the Croton Dam. A beautiful block built dam with a nice picnic area below. - All_I_could_affExplorerIf you will be staying with your son without the need for the camper for a couple of days, I would stash it at Allaire state park for $20 a day, Rather than tow it into Staten Island where you will pay a fortune in tolls, aggravation, and traffic
- All_I_could_affExplorerPine cone rv park in freehold should be within 50 miles, but not sure if they allow non seasonal in winter. Are u returning to your unit every nite after visiting your son? Or leaving it unattended for a few days while staying at son’s home? Bridge tolls into and out of NYC would discourage me from making daily trips back to sleep

- rirish1ExplorerLiberty Harbour in Jersey City is great. Close to subway to explore NYC. View of Statue of Liberty out front door. It is just a parking lot, but we explored NYC instead of hanging out at campsite.
- FULLTIMEWANABEExplorerFor convenience you can't go wrong with Liberty Harbour to metro/ferry access into NYC in our opinion, but it is not a place I'd like to hang around the site at for a whole day, (far from it!!). We loved our time in NYC itself and also enjoyed evenings and mornings around Jersey side, walking, Marina, eateries etc. We spent no downtime however at Liberty Harbour RV park just for sleeping and only 3 nights at that.
If you are staying with your son during your time at Staton Island, then as has been said before, get him to locate somewhere you can store/park your RV safely during that time frame. - gboppExplorerThe closest I want to park my RV near New York City is Pennsylvania. :B
But that's just me. - Matt_ColieExplorer IISnowpeke,
As a refugee from the area that is required irregular visits, you need to start with a map. Staten Island is part of NYC, but it is not close by any stretch.
If all you need to do is park the 5er, having the son hunt up a storage yard is a good bet.
If you will want to live in it while visiting, then you really do not want Liberty Harbor. It is an expensive parking lot with hook-ups. That is, unless it is the most convenient to your son's home.
You need to mark up a map with campgrounds that are confirmed open at your expected arrival time. Then, pick a bridge - Either Gothals or Outer Bridge and go from there.
If you have not spent a lot of time driving in the Megopolis, do your best to avoid doing so in drive time.
Matt - DrewEExplorer IILiberty Harbor is the most convenient.
Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn offers RV camp sites with pretty much no amenities. It's harder to get to (especially since you can't take an RV on the Belt Parkway) but considerably less expensive than Liberty Harbor.
If all you want is parking, rather than camping, you might ask your son if there's something around his area for parking/storage. - fitznjExplorerTurkey Swamp Campground or Allaire; Located in Freehold/Howell;
Both are open during the winter and are about 30 minutes south of
Staten Island; Both are public camp-grounds and very safe
