I'm a fellow contrarian. If we're not actively using water, the pump is OFF. Nothing bad can happen to the system while we're outside if there's no power, and the batteries last longer. Folks who doubt that the pump draws power when idle should try dry camping for ten days at a stretch like we do.
We camp in conserve mode each summer to extend our battery life and we have never considered the pump light as one of the necessary switches to help extend that time.
