I know three years ago when we were doing the Oregon coast without reservations we only had problems at one campground (we like their State campgrounds) getting a spot. Somehow we had the phone numbers for each individual park and we could call ahead and ask if there was availability and they would tell us, "Oh we have 4 spots left" and we would know to go right there and get the spot...
