Well looking at your "state map" you really are just a weekender and don't travel far. You would find trying to stay only at state/national/county parks a real hassle if you were traveling say to Fl and then to Me on any sort of reasonable travel schedule.
I agree for a simple weedend getaway close to home a KOA is not a very good destination option, but that's not really their advantage the biggest being LOCATION ... either along popular travel routes or near popular attractions locations and for that there is a cost.
