We may be heading to MI mid-May and were thinking about spending a couple of days here. Can anyone tell me about the electric sites and what type of bugs we may have to deal with that time of year? ...

As Dale said, it should be too early for bugs, but if it is, it will require jackets. We have camped a lot in both northern lower and upper Michigan, and it is always good. Long about August the bugs are feeding up for winter, so that is a good time to be elsewhere.
We have never stayed a wilderness, but be aware that ever vehicle entering a MI state park needs an 11$ sticker. Sure, it is good for the year, but this may not be a value if you are only in the state for two weeks. Even with that, the state parks are still decent value.
