Wildflower viewing Texas Campground recommendation

Well, I can't tell you about the relative abundance of bluebonnets this year, as we will only arrive in the Hill Country on Wednesday of this week.

We will be staying at the KOA in Fredericksburg--which is actually five or six miles out east (toward the Wildseed Farm and at the intersection of the road to Luckenback). We are not prejudiced either positively or negatively as to KOAs. We do not seek them out or avoid them, but this is one where we have stayed many times and we like to stay there.

Fredericksburg is a good base for viewing the wildflowers, and is also worth a visit in its own right--the town I mean.

A different area where we have often found good bluebonnet viewing even when around Frederickburg was not so good is around Washington on the Brazos and Brenham, all the way over to Montgomery, north of Houston. We have stayed several times in the North Houston/Lake Conroe KOA (same comments as above) and a few times at the Artesian RV Park near Brenham--not so attractive but a very convenient location.

If you could get in, Inks Lake State Park is also a good base.

I'm sure there are many other possibilities, but these are some of the ones we know by experience.

The grave yard in Rockport, Tx use to be spectacular. I haven't been by in a few years. I would guess it hasn't changed. Lots of campgrounds to choose from.
